Did you know that the third greatest fear behind public speaking and death is aging? That is actually not true, but nobody wants to look old. Here are 5 of the best tips that we have found to help keep your skin looking young and vibrant.
Take care of your eyes
The eyes are the windows to the soul, so let’s decorate them nicely.
There are several ways to take care of your eyes during the summer months, but the best tip we’ve found is to get some UV blocking sunglasses. The skin around your eyes is some of the thinnest on your entire body, so it can get damaged easily.
Additionally, sunglasses also help to keep you from having to squint all of the time which leads to fine lines and wrinkles. In addition to this, you should get a wide brimmed hat. This will protect your eyes from sunlight entering directly from above and it’s crazy cute.
As if I needed a reason to sleep in…
Getting enough sleep is very important for maintaining a healthy complexion, because lack of sleep increases the release of cortisol. Cortisol increases the stress levels of your body, along with triggering inflammation, which generally presents itself as acne. What's worse is that this can turn into a vicious cycle as the inflammation can make it difficult to sleep, resulting in more inflammation.
Another important sleep tip is to avoid the snooze button. Despite how good it may feel, the disrupted sleep cycles can actually make you groggier throughout the day.
Absorb some antioxidants
It is widely recognized that antioxidants are a key component to keeping your body healthy, but they also have tremendous benefits for your skin.
Antioxidants keep the skin looking young by neutralizing free radicals that damage cells and age the body. It is important to get enough of them in your diet, but you can also apply antioxidant rich juice directly to your skin and reap the anti-aging benefits.
Some of the best foods to get antioxidants from are berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries), nuts, and dark, leafy greens like spinach.
Exfoliation is a killer way to keep your skin looking young and fresh looking because it helps remove dead skin that makes your skin appear dull and lifeless, as well as revealing a fresh, brand new layer of skin.
There are certain areas that often get neglected during the exfoliation process that can make you appear older than you actually are though. Your neck, chest, and hands can accumulate dead skin, aging them faster than other areas.
Get some protein
Protein is a key building block of both elastin and collagen in your skin. Collagen accounts for 30% of the total protein in your body, and often suffers when people have low-protein diets.
One of the best types of protein for women is whey protein (commonly found in nutritional and weight loss shakes) because it doesn't cause hormone fluctuations, is the easiest to digest, and can actually be more nutritious than egg whites or nuts.
